"He's here to see The King…"

A great quote from Bush in his White House lawn speech to welcome Koizumi (which was just on live a few minutes ago). However, with North Korea’s Taepong 2 threat and Iran’s nukes to discuss, you can’t help thinking about how bizarre the side trip to Graceland actually is.

As everyone in Japan knows, Koizumi is a huge Elvis fan (above is the cover from his CD for charity “Junichiro Koizumi Presents My Favorite Elvis songs”), so it would appear that Koizumi requested the visit to Graceland (he was at Niagara Falls on Tuesday).

What’s interesting, though, is that Bush actually suggested it and arranged it. Apparently it’s his way of thanking a “good friend” (which, I think, means someone who didn’t hesitate to support him as he decided to head into Iraq on a shaky premise).

I wonder if they’ll do Karaoke together – Bush could do track #22 from Koizumi’s CD: “My Boy”; Koizumi could do track #4: “Anyway You Want Me (that’s how I will be)”…
