3-D TVs hit the denki shops

3D TVs have landed in denki shops (electronics retailers) across Japan.

I was walking through Bic Camera this afternoon to meet a friend who was buying a MacBook Air (because I love mine so much and put it forth as the best replacement for an aging MacBook) and I passed this interesting scene:

Bic had four stands with 3D viewing glasses set up in front of a row of Panasonic 3D Vieras and a line-up had formed in the designated spot for a glimpse of the technology.

Here’s a link to Panasonic’s Japanese site (Flash required) for the 3D Vieras and here’s a bit more info from Home Cinema Choice

Detective Conan Zeppelin ride over Tokyo

There was a zeppelin circling all over central Tokyo this past weekend, which was obviously advertising the soon-to-open “Detective Conan” (名探偵 コナン) movie: “The Lost Ship in the Sky” (which seems to be the official English title for the Japanese 名探偵コ ナン 天空の難破船). (I don’t know why they didn’t use “Shipwreck in the Sky” or something like that, but that’s a separate story.)

Anyway, the movie opens here on April 17, so, in conjunction with that, there is a “Detective Conan Dream Cruise” campaign: you can pay ¥63,000 per person (about $675 US) for a 40 minute cruise around Tokyo (the price is slightly higher for the night cruise). The cruise is on NAC’s Zeppelin NT, the worlds largest airship (at 75m long, it is longer than a 747) and NAC’s is one of only three in use in the world.

I happen to live fairly close to the landing/take-off point, so, when I was out for a walk on Saturday, I took a few photos:
