The weather has been quite unusual in Tokyo these past couple of weeks: after the yellow sands of China coating us all in a layer of grit, we moved into a patch of unseasonably low temperatures. Although there are quite often windy days in February and into March (these strong winds are called haruichiban 春一番) and sometimes there is a patch of bad weather after the cherry blossoms start appearing (at the end of March) , the winds the past few days have been intense and the temperatures have been quite low.
In fact, it was so windy from Thursday night to Friday morning the air and rail services were disrupted and, perhaps because I live near the water and on a high floor, there was a dramatic howling of the wind all night long. When I woke up early Friday morning, I went out onto the balcony to see white caps on the canal, which, believe me, is a very unusual occurrence when a canal is almost completely protected and about one meter deep.
Anyway, I decided to capture a bit of the wind and the sakura on video, so here it is:
(video was shot with a Canon ivis HF21 from 30 floors up, slowed to half speed)
