The countdown begins

I went to the Mac store in Shibuya today. I’m thinking about getting a new computer, so I wanted to check out the new Macbook Pros.

After buying my current computer at the Ginza store, I swore I’d avoid making my next purchase at a Mac store. However, the Shinjuku denki shops don’t seem to have any of the glossy screen models on display and I wanted to see what they looked like.

I find the Mac store irritating: the staff all seem to have read the same “This-is-What-You-Tell-the-Customer Manual” and today’s talking head did not disappoint.

Anyway, don’t want to go on about the Mac retail experience. What I want to post is this:

Yep, spotted Christmas decorations for the first time this season (this is just outside Parco). It’s not a very interesting display, but it just struck me as I was walking past that it seemed rather early; it also registered in that moment that we are well into November and another Christmas approaches…

Hey, I’m thinking of going Macbook Pro for my next system as well. With Intel inside, and BootCamp and or Parallels available, Mac is the best of both worlds, rather than a switch. So I think it’s time to ‘switch’ :)

I can tell you that I LOVE the glossy screens (not a mac only thing, they’ve been out for a few years on PC notebooks).
However they have a serious drawback… GLARE! They reflect every scrap of light behind you. So depending on the environment, they can be very difficult to see.
When you can see it, the screen is mesmerizing. So bright and such high contrast it looks like a jewel.
However most experts are saying stick with the matte finish.

I’d also suggest not running out and getting one until after Mac World January. Worst case scenario is nothing will be announced except maybe a price drop. However it is close to January and you never know what Jobs will announce until the keynote.
You wouldn’t want to be obsolete after a month or two would you? ;)

    Good luck,
    Jay
